Title One








    Title I, Part A of the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 (NCLB), known as Improving the Academic Achievement of the Disadvantaged Program, is one of the most well-known and largest parts of federal education law. Title I funds are targeted to high-poverty schools and districts and used to provide educational services to students who are educationally disadvantaged or at risk of failing to meet state standards.


    Title I has 3 primary objectives:

    -        To improve student achievement for all participating students

    -        To improve staff development

    -        To improve parental and community involvement


    Title I funds may be used in a variety of ways including but not limited to:

    -        Additional instructional programs such as reading support

    -        Extended day tutoring

    -        Resources and materials

    -        Summer programs

    -        Title I events such as Literacy Night

    -        Professional development


    Nauset Public Schools uses Title I funds to support a Targeted Assistance Program; individual students in our schools are chosen to receive supplemental services in reading and/or math based on specific criteria. Selection for this program is based on various assessments; end-of-year testing and teacher recommendations, all of which help us assess the needs of each child.


    In 2012 the U.S. Department of Education approved a flexibility request form the MA Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. Under the flexibility, districts are able to more effectively allocate Title I funds based on a comprehensive needs assessment.
